She spent a total of eight months at PC AGE taking classes
on Saturdays and half days on Sundays while working full time
in the packaging department of a pharmaceutical company earning
$5.05 per hour. She is currently working with UPS as Systems
Programmer (Designer).
In
India Joshi earned a B. Sc. Degree in Microbiology before
she came to the USA in May of 1997. She was exploring possibilities
for a better career in different schools when one of her father’s
friends, a computer instructor, told her about PC AGE.
“Even
though I never used computers before, I knew there are great
opportunities in the computer field in the USA,” she said.
It
was PC AGE where she opened a computer, disassembled it and
reassembled it for the very first time. “It was a real hands-on
training and I loved the PC AGE Test Master (MCSE test preparation
software) that helped me pass all my MCSE exams the first
time.”
Her
first computer job was as a computer lab technician. She was
hired by UPS in the Third Level Support, in December 1998.
“MCSE Certification helped me to get a job at a higher level.
There were many people envious about it who were working in
the Second Level Support for ten years.”She provided technical support for Windows NT and Novell Servers
for about one and a half years and was promoted to the Design
Group department in August 2000. She is responsible for designing
computer systems for the company.
“I
was the starting point and an inspiration for my family. My
aunt who was working at a bank also enrolled at PC AGE and
increased her salary by fifteen thousands after graduation.
My cousin who was unable to find a job after completing a
college degree also graduated from PC AGE and found a great
job in the computer field in New York.”
“My
first job in the US was so demanding physically that I used
to cry at home because of the pain and I wanted to go back
to India. Now I love USA.”
